I own a Contracting business in Northern California. It amazes me how much waste there is in most building projects. There has been very little done for the recycling of building materials in our society.

My partner and I are working towards greener solutions on every level. However there needs to be some infrastructure on a much larger level for the recycling of wood, insulation, and so on.

Our main goal right now is to clean the forests around us of ladder fuels, and debris. This is a win win for the environment anywhere especially if the materials are used for furniture and artwork.

I suggest donating things from building sites to the habitat for humanity stores. Here in Kansas, the stores have great selection of recycled, unused wood, molding, paint, windows, storm windows, hardware, etc. Or go there to find stuff for your own projects, preferably before you start building so you can use that custom window you find there. Or a sink, from an old house.
