Using Less Plastic

This forum has been entirely too quiet.

I am curious what steps people are taking so that they use less plastic. I hope if people post some of their tricks and ideas some of them will come in handy for the rest of us.

I am also curious about how to weigh the costs of various plastics and packagings. So far I have only managed to take baby steps on the avoiding plastics plan. Plastic seems to be everywhere.

I now use paper bags for purchasing my vegetables (and then use the bags for garbage or recycle them.

I have been storing my cheese in many use plastic containers rather than plastic wrap.

I still get some of the single use plastic bags from grocery stores but for the most part I use those to deal with kitty litter.

Are the stores around you handing out the brown bags or are you bringing in your own? We use the shopping totes for most of our shopping but still put our vegetables in the plastic bags.

There are little brown bags, lunch size, in the veggie and fruit section.

I am honestly not sure if it is common, but the two stores with the freshest local and regional veggies do offer the brown bags.
